As a manufacturing town, Leeds developed because it made things. Today it doesn’t make things, but is involved in the making of money (services).
But Leeds has never, despite its two large universities and the Henry Moore connection, been famous for creating ideas.
Yet there’s a young literary couple in our midst (and there’s a public relations connection if you bear with me).
Andrea Semple is an emerging Leeds novelist in the ‘chick-lit’ genre. Her partner, Matt Haig, has written on PR, on branding (twice) and now also has a novel out. He runs his own PR consultancy in Leeds, though it seems he’s more focused on his books.
