Old dogs and new tricks

8 Nov

Graduation1107There’s nothing better than to be surrounded by young people excited to be meeting new challenges, learning new things and reaching for new opportunities. Graduations can be joyful occasions, but they’re also a reminder that I’m getting older.

So what are my challenges for the year, and what new things am I keen to learn?

  • I’m planning to launch Behind the Spin as an online magazine next year (as well as producing the print version). This will involve learning some new tricks (WordPress probably).
  • I think I’m good with words, but am correspondingly weak in terms of thinking visually. I’m already learning some lessons from my students, and know that I need to improve in this area. Expect a new banner on this blog soon.
  • Balancing workload demands is never easy. It’s hard to keep a focus on students, but to me this is the most enjoyable part of the job. As well as our classes and supervisions here, we also have some 70 PR students on work placements this year. Out of sight maybe; not out of mind.

Doesn’t sound much, maybe, but I’d rather focus on achieving this much and learning some new things along the way.

I’m glad to know about Platform. So much still to learn…
