You only need to scan the headlines to get the message. Sony plans massive job cuts, Leeds Utd posts record £50m loss, Cadbury to cut 10% of workforce (all BBC reports).

Sony and Cadbury Schweppes are much admired for their management and their brand building success. (Leeds Utd is a different story). But both are cutting costs and responding to changing business environments.
